I applied for a job today, and part of the application process was a Mensa-style timed knowledge quiz and a personality test. Challenge accepted! I like quizzes and I’m kind of competitive (thanks for reminding me, personality test), so I was into it.
The quiz had nothing to do with the job. Rather, it covered stuff like 5th grade math and logic. Everything was going well, but I wasn’t closely watching the timer, so about halfway through, realized I couldn’t finish and blazed through several questions. When the timer ran out, I still had 10-15 of the 50 total or so left.
I felt confident about my answers, but now I’m a little nervous about not finishing. I’m hoping the company weighs accuracy over speed, and even if I don’t get an interview, I’m curious to see how I did.
Lastly, just my two cents: Companies face a big challenge with applicant quality, but if I was a perfect fit for the job and didn’t test well, this would have been a big missed opportunity for both parties.
